006-05 Create Category Types
00:00:05:33 - 00:00:23:34
Right, where in SwiftFox settings. And in this tutorial, we'll be specifically focusing on how you can create additional category types for your contacts. Every contact in SwiftFox, be they your people, or your organisations, has a category type assigned to them. And they're incredibly useful.
00:00:23:38 - 00:00:27:42
They allow you to categorise your contacts however you want, such as member,
00:00:27:42 - 00:00:46:00
donor, volunteer, client. The list is endless. Topics we will cover include creating new category types, colour coding category types, displaying category types in search. So let's jump into it.
00:00:46:04 - 00:01:00:18
Giving your contact to category type is done directly in the profile via the dropdown menu. These category types are preset by your organisation and can only be changed or added to by administrators from the settings page.
00:01:00:22 - 00:01:14:02
This feature can be accessed in the settings page. If you have sufficient permissions, you'll see the category types heading. If you do not have this option, you will need to speak to a SwiftFox administrator in your organisation.
00:01:14:06 - 00:01:29:28
Once you have clicked on category types, you'll see all the category types you have already created for your contacts. To create a new one, click new category. Give it a name and click create. Done!
00:01:29:32 - 00:01:44:21
Another clever feature of category types is that you can set a colour on your records based on the category type. Why is giving your category type a colour important? Well, you can choose to make a contacts business card display the colour of the category type
00:01:44:32 - 00:01:51:12
so when you are quickly searching a contact, you can get an immediate visual of the type of contact you are looking up.
00:01:51:16 - 00:02:07:03
To set a colour, head back to Category Types in Settings. Then simply press select colour button and pick from either our default list or other colours your organisation has saved.
00:02:07:07 - 00:02:23:10
A final tip on category types, you can display them when searching for a record in SwiftSearch. So let's say you are searching for a contact in your database who also has the category type of member. You can display it in search results under their name.
00:02:23:14 - 00:02:34:21
This adds another layer of ease to identify people you're searching for. To enable this, simply tick the 'Use as Swift Badge' box when creating your category types.
00:02:34:25 - 00:02:37:11
Don't we love a category type! Thanks for watching.
